(This is a small sample of what will be available based on an upcoming study by the Social Health Institute and WCG on Facebook + Hospitals – special thanks to Greg Matthews for all his help.)

Ever wondered what types of posts hospitals make? We have taken a group of 12 hospitals and studied a number metrics around their usage over a three month period of time. The full report will be out soon but today I wanted to share how “Type” breaks down.

When posting on Facebook you have a few options on what you plan to share:

  • Status
  • Photo
  • Video
  • Event
  • Milestone
  • Question
  • Offer

The 12 hospitals included in the study accounted for a total of 1589 posts over the three month period of the study. Here is how the types broke down (Not represented below were 1 Question and 1 Offer that were posted in this time frame):

types.001

So if “link” and “photo” posts dominate most hospital’s Facebook page is this good? Those 1589 posts accounted for 41,664 engagements (Engagement = Like, Comment, Share.) Looking at each type of post and specifically looking at the number of engagements each produced we pulled the engagement ratio. Based on each type here is their performance metric:

ratio.001

Photos far our weigh any other type of post based on engagements per post. Across the board they produce many more likes, comments, and shares.

There is much more to this, and the whitepaper will expand on this idea along with many other topics – data related and even some that are not. Would love some initial feedback to know if things like this are helpful?

imgres-1In my last post I talked about correcting your Apple Maps listing. Today I wanted to give you a few resources on adding you hospital to the map. I am finding that many of my clients listings are incorrect but more often than that is the issue of them simply not existing at all.

Apple Maps pulls it’s data from both TomTom and Yelp. So with that said Here is what you need to do:

  1. Claim/Manager your Yelp listing.
  2. Make sure your information is up to date in TomTom/TeleAtlas.

Your other option is to add you location on the map from within the map application itself. This is similar to correction a location’s information with a few differences. Here are the steps:

  1. Open up Apple Maps
  2. On the bottom right of the map tap the page curl
  3. Just above the “Print” Button tap the text that says “Report a Problem”
  4. Select “location is missing” from the list
  5. Drag the purple pin to the right location on the map.
  6. Enter your location information
  7. Send

Question: Have you added or corrected a listing? How did it go?

Last week Apple released the newest version of their mobile operating system iOS6. With this new release there were, as Apple states, over 200 new features. One of the most important for businesses is the replacement of Google Maps with Apple Maps. Without going into the details many are not happy.

Many users are now finding at the default map within the most popular operating system in the world no longer includes business they need to find. To make sure you don’t get left behind here is what you need to do.

There are 2 main issues.

  1. Your hospital is listed but the map is showing the wrong location.
  2. Your hospital is not listed on the map at all.
Today we are going to tackle the first issue. More to come later this week on the second. Just a reminder – this is all very new so the responsiveness of the maps and/or Apple is TBD.

If you find your hospital listed but the location is incorrect.

  1. Grab a device with iOS6 and search for your hospital. Tap on the pin to open up the detailed information and tap on “Report a Problem.”search
  2. Choose your problem form the list. In this case I choose “Pin is at incorrect location.”location
  3. Then Apple gives you a map to drag the pin to the new location. Once done hit “Send.” Make sure you are dragging the pin within the “Report a Problem” window and not on the map itself.drag

With the launch of the Social Health Institute I found it important that I continue down a path of exploring new forms of content creation. One medium I had not used in some time was podcasting. I listen to quite a number of podcast and so I thought this might be a good option going forward.

In an effort to keep things simple a Google+ hangout became the way to record, publish, and distribute recorded content (more on this in a later post.) My partner in crime for this endeavor is Lance Lunsford, VP of Advocacy Communications for the Texas Hospital Association.

If you would like to join us for a recording or if you simply have a topic you think would be good to see covered we would love to hear from you.

In this first installment we covered upcoming events a bit of technology and what the Social Health Institute is doing day one. Take a listen and let me know what you think….

Clemson_wordmarkAt the end of the month I am lucky enough to have been invited to teach at Clemson University for a newly launched Mini MBA Program. This opportunity came about though a great professional and personal relationship I have with Bobby Rettew. Bobby is a thought leader in many areas but in my eyes especially around storytelling (not to mention he is a 6 time Emmy winner!)

I think what Clemson is doing is great, but you maybe asking yourself what is a Mini MBA program? Here is the elevator pitch via Clemson:

In five Friday seminars you will sharpen your leadership skills, learn advanced marketing techniques, build ROI decision making processes, develop methods for successful project execution and devise a successful business strategy.

I will be joining in on Friday September 28th to talk about new media topics including:

  • New Media and Social Media Tools
  • Advanced Marketing Techniques
  • Customer Service and Message Management
  • Brand Management
  • Service Marketing

This offering was developed by Clemson University’s Center for Corporate Learning. Education like this is what will ultimately help us bridge the gap in the social world between those we want content from and what they historically have been trained to do in a career.

Bobby and I both are advocates for content creation as a strategy, and in the hospital world that means content from clinical staff… physician, nurse, therapist, dietitian, etc. Programs like this will help us all speak the same language!

I am excited to see how this goes and watch their progress as this class graduates and the next comes in!

If you are interested in learning more about the program you can do so here:
